SPLEEN ENERGY IMPACTS THE LIPS

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the Spleen – earth element – is associated with the mouth and lips. When the Spleen functions properly and its Qi is strong, the mouth can distinguish the five flavors. The lips are red and well hydrated.

When the energy of the spleen is weak, the mouth can hardly distinguish flavors, a lack of appetite appears. And the lips are pale and dry.

If the spleen is in heat, the lips are dry and a sweet taste sensation persists in the mouth. When it is deficient, the lips are pale. Furthermore, the lips, lacking sebaceous glands, are sensitive to external aggressions, such as wind, cold or humidity.
