HAPPINESS IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH

Joy, according to Chinese medicine (TCM) refers to the element Fire, and the related organ, the Heart. The Heart houses the Shen, the spirit that represents the overall vitality of the individual.

Joy promotes the circulation of Qi and Blood. It relaxes the mind and promotes the inner peace necessary for the activity of Shen and Qi. In case of “Heart Fire”, the mind is agitated, laughter can be excessive or without reason. We are then in a pathology, and no longer in the expression of a healthy joy.

Finally, the Heart is the emperor of all the organs. A joyful heart therefore impacts all the other organs, and our overall health.

Cultivating joy makes us the architect of our health!

ANXIETY STATES AND CHINESE MEDICINE

Anxiety or “Jiao Lu” in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is a normal state when it is experienced occasionally in reaction to a particular situation. But if this state becomes permanent, it is pathological. Anxiety is the emotion associated with the earth element (Spleen/Stomach).

It manifests itself through difficulties in concentration, memory lapses, irregular sleep, and even irritability. Anxiety is one of the Qing Zhi Bing, or emotional diseases, and is found in many TCM syndromes.

TCM uses a combination of acupuncture and pharmacopoeia to treat these conditions, which always involve an energy imbalance. These treatments have good results. They have the advantage of not causing any side effects or addiction.

SOLVING ABDOMINAL DISTENTION

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), digestive disorders and bloating are linked to the spleen-stomach system, but also to the liver.

It is increasingly recognised that stress affects digestion. In TCM, the Liver is the most sensitive organ to exaggerated or repressed emotions, which have the effect of blocking its energy, creating “Liver Qi stagnation”.

The Liver plays a vital role in the proper functioning of digestion. Through its function of dispersing qi, it allows the stomach to move food down to the small intestine.

In TCM, the treatment of abdominal distention consists of restoring the energetic balance of the spleen and the liver.

DEFENDING YOURSELF AGAINST EXTERNAL ATTACKS

DEFENDING YOURSELF AGAINST EXTERNAL ATTACKS

For Chinese medicine, the flu is considered an attack by an “external perverse energy”. These perverse energies are wind, cold, humidity, heat or a combination of several of them.

Influenza (Gan Mao) can thus be caused by an attack of Wind/Cold or Wind/Heat. This wind, after having penetrated the defensive energy layer (Wei Qi), will first circulate in the outermost layer of the body. If the attack is not repelled, it will then penetrate the deeper layers, generating the flu symptoms. These symptoms manifest the body’s struggle to rid itself of the invader.

By cultivating strong kidneys and good vital energy, the defensive energy will be more effective, and your body will defend itself better against the flu or recover from it more quickly

TURNIP: A POWERFUL ACTION ON THE LUNGS

The turnip is one of the most widely consumed vegetables in China, and also one of the most powerful in terms of medicinal properties. Hence the saying: “If you eat a turnip, you gain a year”.
The long, white turnip is the most commonly used. Eaten raw (in juice or salad), it helps to expel Tan, which in Chinese medicine refers to piles, stagnation of all origins, i.e. waste.
The turnip acts more particularly on the Lung, dissolving the Tan and thus avoiding piles of mucus, or chronic bronchitis among others.
It also eliminates the accumulation of heat due to alcohol and tobacco. Indeed the pungent flavour is powerful in removing “heat-moisture” from the body.
