LONGAN: A SMALL FRUIT OF GREAT VALUE

The longan (龙眼), or “eye of the dragon” in Chinese, is known for its subtle fragrance, but also for its therapeutic virtues. Its dried flesh is an integral part of the Chinese pharmacopoeia.

Longan strengthens the spleen, promoting the digestive system. It thus treats bloating, loose stools or lack of appetite. Longan tones the blood, and is therefore recommended in cases of weakness or convalescence.

It nourishes the blood of the heart, and thus has a positive impact on the functioning of the brain. It treats memory loss, insomnia, concentration difficulties, anxiety, etc. It is an excellent brain tonic.

To nourish the heart, fresh longan is more interesting, while to tone the spleen, dried longan is preferred.
